Over 600 Prisoners Freed -Including Opposition Leaders, via Amnesty and Dropped Charges

On Thursday, the Ethiopian government released more than 600 federal prisoners, including several prominent opposition party leaders. The individuals were granted freedom through a combination of official pardons and the formal dropping of pending charges by state authorities.

The mass release follows a five-month advocacy campaign led by the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC). The government's decision to grant amnesty marks a significant development in the country's ongoing political and judicial proceedings regarding detained opposition figures.
