Electric scooters have emerged as a new component of traffic in the Dominican Republic, where they are increasingly sharing roads with trucks, SUVs, and motorcycles. These vehicles frequently navigate alongside larger traffic and compete with motorcycles at intersections.

While electric scooters share design, utility, and operational requirements with motorcycles, they currently operate under a different regulatory framework. Unlike motorcycles, these scooters do not require license plates, registration, insurance, or a driver's license to operate on public roads.
