Philippine ferry fire victims may take months to identify, authorities say

Authorities in the Philippines announced on Sunday that identifying the victims of a recent ferry fire near Palawan province could take weeks or months. The incident, which occurred aboard the MV June Aster, resulted in 76 confirmed fatalities. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the blaze, and recovery efforts remain ongoing.

Forensic specialists report that the condition of the remains complicates the identification process. Some victims were discovered clustered together in specific sections of the vessel, while others were scattered across various areas of the ship. Forensic expert Richard Allan Mangalip noted these challenges as teams work to process the site.
