Philippine firefighters enter charred ferry as rescuers search for 84 missing

Firefighters in the Philippines have boarded a charred ferry off the coast of Coron, Palawan province, to conduct search and rescue operations. The vessel caught fire two nights prior, an incident that has resulted in at least five confirmed deaths and left 84 people missing.

Initial rescue efforts were hampered by intense heat and smoke emanating from the vessel, which prevented personnel from boarding the ship until Friday. While over 40 survivors were initially reported, authorities are continuing to search for the remaining missing passengers.
