Reporteros sin Fronteras has urged the Spanish government to protect and prevent the deportation to Nicaragua of journalist Luis Manuel Chavarría, who holds Spanish nationality. Chavarría was recently detained in the United States.

The organization issued the appeal from Madrid on September 18, warning that the journalist faces severe danger due to ongoing persecution if he is sent back to Nicaragua.
