NewzPlantation High School was placed on lockdown Thursday after a large fight and a report of a person armed with a gun, the Plantation Police Department said in a Facebook advisory.Leer en españolOfficers responded to the school at 6901 NW 16th St. and were actively searching the campus, police said.They said a perimeter was established around the school, and no one was being allowed to enter or leave the area while the search was underway.The police department did not provide additional details about the reported weapon or whether anyone was injured in the advisory.This is a developing story. Rising water can quickly lead to flooding around homes and yards.A resident who lives near Northwest 13th Street and Ninth Avenue said rising water can wash out his entire yard during periods of heavy rainfall.The downpours also can overwhelm storm drains, causing water to collect on streets and in low-lying areas.In some neighborhoods, the flooding began to recede once the rain eased, allowing standing water to drain away.Broward County officials said all available vacuum trucks have been deployed to clear stormwater systems and assist with flooding in high-risk areas.The county also has pumps ready for use in low-lying areas and said crews will continue flood-control operations throughout the day.
An active investigation is ongoing in southwest Miami-Dade County.Leer en españolIt was happening Thursday morning in the area of the 15000 block of southwest 140th Street. A nearby school, Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School, was placed on a temporary lockdown that has since been lifted. Officials with Miami-Dade County Public Schools told Local 10 News the lockdown was due to “non-school related police activity in the area.” Video obtained by Local 10 News shows two men scuffling in the area near the school, and at one point in the video, what sounds like a gunshot is heard.
Police have yet to provide any official information into what occurred or what they are investigating. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, one person was treated at the scene but was not transported to an area hospital.
