By Esther Onyegbula Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms during a routine patrol in the Igando area of the state. The suspect, identified as Olajunja Segun Samson, 29, was arrested after he and two other occupants of a motorcycle allegedly attempted to flee on sighting a police patrol team. The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the arrest formed part of the command’s sustained operations against crime and criminality across the state.
According to the statement, the patrol team became suspicious after sighting a motorcycle conveying three male occupants whose behaviour aroused suspicion. “The arrest was made when a Police patrol team sighted a motorcycle conveying three male occupants behaving suspiciously. On sighting the police, the suspects attempted to flee.
“One of the suspects, Olajunja Segun Samson, ‘m’, 29 years, was apprehended, while the two other suspects escaped, abandoning the motorcycle,” the statement read. The command said a search conducted on the arrested suspect and the abandoned motorcycle led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms believed to have been used by the suspects. It added that the suspect remains in police custody while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the two fleeing accomplices.
“The suspect is currently in Police custody while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices. Investigation into the case is ongoing,” the statement added. Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain the fight against violent crimes across the state.

In a statement issued by the command, the Police said the arrests followed a raid on the SSG’s residence at the Oroki Estate area of Osogbo on Wednesday, adding that Permanent Voter Cards were recovered during the raid According to the Command, officers recovered a register containing voters’ details, raising concerns over possible electoral offences. Other items allegedly recovered from the residence include ₦4.8 million in cash, a Dynabook laptop, photocopying machines, a printer, and voter registers covering Wards one to fifteen in Osogbo Local Government Area. The Police also identified the other suspects arrested at the residence as Abiodun Arowomole, popularly known as “Ashipa,” who was described as a wanted murder suspect on the Command’s watch list, alongside Taiwo Akande, Lukman Adeyemo, Muftau Olaoye, and Musiliu Aderemi.
