Greek police arrested a 71-year-old foreign national at Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” after discovering he was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued by Peruvian authorities over allegations of child rape. Officers from the Security Department of the Athens Airport Police Directorate detained the suspect shortly before he was due to board a flight to Toronto. According to the Hellenic Police (EL.AS.), officers located the man on July 27 in the departures area of the airport during routine checks.
Peruvian authorities accuse the suspect of offences allegedly committed in January 2011. According to the allegations outlined in the Red Notice, the man is accused of exploiting his family relationship with a minor and his position of trust while supervising the child during her parents’ absence to commit sexual offences against her. The suspect was taken into custody and brought before the competent Greek prosecutorial authority, which will oversee the next stage of the legal process in accordance with applicable extradition procedures.
Greek authorities have not released further details about the suspect’s identity or any extradition proceedings. Advertising1 (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The post Police Arrest Peruvian Fugitive Over Child Rape Allegations appeared first on Greek City Times.
