MANCHESTER, Jamaica— The two men who died in a three-vehicle crash on the New Forest main road in south Manchester Wednesday morning have been identified. Police named the men as Phillip Beharie, a resident of Duff House in Manchester and Meldon Knibbs, a resident of Plowden district, also in Manchester. A police report said about 7:20 am a Honda Vezel motorcar, driven by a 21-year-old woman, overtook a Toyota RAV4 motorcar resulting in a head on collision with a motorcycle.
Police said Beharie was the driver of the motorcycle while Knibbs was the pillion. Both men were flung from the motorcycle upon impact. They were pronounced dead at hospital.
The injured woman was also transported to hospital where she has been admitted for treatment. The police Area Three Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Unit is probing the crash. Statistics from the police show that up to 6:00 am on Wednesday 199 fatalities from 172 collisions were recorded on the nation’s roads compared to 238 fatalities from 207 collisions for the corresponding period last year.
