Police injured in hit-and-run collision in Highgate, businessman charged

ST MARY, Jamaica — Two policemen and a truck driver were injured following a collision involving a police service vehicle and a rollback truck on the Cumberland main road in Highgate, St Mary on Monday. According to police reports, lawmen were responding to reports of a hit-and-run incident in the Junction area and attempted to intercept the rollback truck as it matched the description shared with them by the hit-and-run complainant. Upon seeing the police marked vehicle with its emergency lights and siren activated, the driver of the truck is alleged to have lost control of the vehicle and collided with the police unit before hitting a concrete wall.

The two policemen who were aboard the service vehicle sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Annotto Bay hospital, where they were treated and sent home. The truck driver also sustained injuries and was treated and released. He has been identified as 50-year-old Evon Gordon, a businessman of Richmond, in the parish.

Investigations into the collision are ongoing.
