Those flags signify the water being closed. Between the wind and the king tides, there are several stretches of beach that have begun to experience cliffing, such as those at Mizell-Johnson State Park in Dania Beach. Due to the conditions, very few people came out to the beach on Monday. Some people were seen taking a risk and doing some surfing, which is very dangerous in water that choppy.
King tides are expected to continue to be a problem throughout the rest of the week. Police in Broward County continue searching for the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash.Sekennia Greene spoke to Local 10 News about losing her daughter, 35-year-old Dominque Greene, in the crash that occurred around 8 p.m. Wednesday along the 1300 block of West Sunrise Boulevard.
“She was my daughter, first and foremost, she was a granddaughter, she was a sister, an aunt, most of all she was a mom,” said Sekennia Greene. According to police, Dominique Greene was crossing the westbound lanes of the road when a black Mercedes AMG crashed into her.The driver of that Mercedes did not stop or try to help, police said, and just took off. “I loved her with all my heart, that’s my child,” said Greene.
Rescue crews rushed her to Broward Health Medical Center where she died from her injuries.“We’re fighting for justice for her, justice for her baby,” said Greene. “And just to have her memory live on.”Family members are still explaining to the victim’s young daughter what happened to her mother. “It’s hard to explain to a 4-year-old,” said Greene.
“So you can just try the best way you can, because he has an expectation to see her, and this is something we’re going to have to deal with moving forward. I just pray and ask God to give us strength to take it one day at a time.”Anyone with information on the crash is urged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
