Nayely Altagracia Capellán is recovering from a violent attack by her former partner in which she survived receiving 26 stab wounds. The incident and her subsequent recovery have drawn attention to her difficult living circumstances.

Due to extreme heat and the poor conditions of her modest home in Las Cabuyas, La Vega, her family was forced to move her bed outside into a neighborhood alleyway so she could recuperate.
