Italy's emergency departments are facing a critical staffing shortage, with the deficit of physicians projected to reach nearly 7,000 during the month of August. The Italian Society of Emergency Medicine (Simeu) reports that this peak in vacancies is driven by a combination of long-term structural staffing gaps and the seasonal increase in staff absences due to summer holidays.

This situation highlights the ongoing strain on the national healthcare system, as emergency facilities struggle to maintain adequate coverage. The reliance on existing personnel is further complicated by the inability to fill permanent vacancies, leaving departments particularly vulnerable during periods of high demand and reduced availability.
