Civil Protection activates flood risk alert this Thursday on the Mediterranean coast due to severe storms

Protección Civil y Emergencias has activated a high-risk alert for sudden flooding this Thursday across the eastern Spanish peninsula and the Balearic Islands. The severe weather warning comes in response to anticipated very heavy and persistent downpours driven by an Atlantic front, high-altitude instability, and a developing DANA, with forecasts predicting over 150 mm of rainfall within a six-hour period in certain Mediterranean coastal areas.

The severe meteorological conditions are expected to impact the eastern third of the peninsula, with specific regions such as Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands facing heightened vulnerabilities. Authorities have warned that the intense precipitation carries a significant threat of sudden and rapid flooding along local streams and dry riverbeds (ramblas).
