KINGSTON, Jamaica — Olympic Games medalist Rajindra Campbell extended his Jamaican men’s shot put national record to 22.59m after he won the event at the Grand Prix Brescia in Italy, a World Athletics Continental Silver meet on Sunday. Campbell, who had broken his own record earlier this year when he threw 22.44m in Zagreb, Croatia, beat world leader Leonardo Fabbri of Italy who threw 21.99m with American Payton Otterdahl taking third with 21.29m. Campbell, who broke the record in the third round, led from the start with 22.27m in the first round and then threw 22.35m in the second round before fouling his next three throws.

Meanwhile, national champion Lamara Distin was third in the women’s high jump at the Internationales Hochsprungmeeting Heilbronn in Germany, with a season’s best 1.98m, her best result in two years. Distin had cleared 1.96m twice this year, including at Thursday’s Diamond League meeting in Zurich, Switzerland where she finished fourth. Australia’s Eleanor Patterson won with 2.02m and Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine was third with 2.00m.
