For The Road We Choose, his latest song, Rasta Lightening reflected on things “mi guh through” to help guide people taking the wrong direction in life. The South Florida-based singer wrote and produced the song which was released in late July. “It’s calling for people to make good choices… some people make bad choices and then it can affect their lives,” he said.

The Road We Choose is his first song released in 2026 for Rasta Lightening, who hails from Spanish Town. Like Bob Marley and Mykal Rose, two of his biggest influences, his writing is based on life experiences. “I’ve travelled all over, so I have seen and experienced a lot, so I am able to pull it back into music,” he said.

Born Roger Hines, Rasta Lightening launched his recording career in 2017. Since then, he has released songs such as Magga Dog and Love of Hispanic Majesty. Prior to embracing Rasta and roots-reggae, he admired many of the dancehall acts that came from his hometown, including Papa San and Lieutenant Stitchie.

A committed Rastafarian for over 20 years, he credits his faith for keeping him grounded. “Most of my songs are inspirational because when you connect with the Almighty He gives you inspiration and then I improvise,” said Rasta Lightening.
