He charged $46 to visit a “ruin” that he himself built with plaster and polystyrene: the archaeological scam that lasted ten years

For nearly a decade, tourists from various parts of the world paid up to 40 euros, equivalent to approximately 46 US dollars, to visit what was presented to them as an ancient archaeological site located in the hills of Arcugnano, in the Italian province.

The attraction turned out to be a fraudulent setup constructed by an individual using plaster and polystyrene. The operation successfully deceived visitors for approximately ten years before being uncovered as an archaeological scam.
