Generational change, the main problem for the coconut industry in the Dominican Republic

Agriculture Minister Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme stated that generational turnover is the primary challenge facing the coconut industry in the Dominican Republic. According to official figures, 71 percent of coconut producers in the country are 50 years of age or older.

In light of these demographics, the Dominican state has emphasized the urgent need to engage younger generations in agricultural production to secure the future sustainability and growth of the coconut sector.
