Generational change, the main problem for the coconut industry in the Dominican Republic

Agriculture Minister Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme stated that generational turnover is the primary problem facing the coconut industry in the Dominican Republic. According to official figures, 71% of the country's coconut producers are 50 years of age or older.

This demographic concentration poses a significant challenge to the sustainability and future growth of the sector. Consequently, the Dominican state has emphasized the urgent need to attract and engage younger generations in agricultural production to secure the industry's long-term viability.
