The 53rd femicide in Cuba has been reported: “Yusy” died after an attack attributed to her former son-in-law during a blackout

The Observatory of Gender Alas Tensas (OGAT) reported the femicide of 41-year-old Yusinay "Yusy" Capetillo Martínez, marking the 53rd such recorded killing in Cuba. The attack occurred during a power blackout at her residence located in the Santos Suárez neighborhood.

According to the reports, Capetillo Martínez was killed in an assault allegedly perpetrated by her former son-in-law. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding gender-based violence and security conditions during infrastructure failures on the island.
