Salvamento Marítimo rescued 557 individuals from three separate cayucos during the early hours of September 28, transporting them to the island of El Hierro. The operation involved multiple vessels arriving at the port to disembark the migrants after their journey across the sea.

Initial reports indicated that one of the vessels carried 268 people, including 17 women and four minors, who had spent eleven days at sea after departing from Guinea Bissau. The total figure of 557 represents an updated count following the arrival of all three boats.
