Rescuers pull 2 trapped workers from a hydropower tunnel 9 days after Nepal floods

Rescuers in Nepal successfully extracted two workers alive from a hydropower plant tunnel on Friday, nine days after catastrophic flooding devastated the region. The survivors are currently receiving medical treatment as emergency crews continue search operations for other individuals still believed to be trapped within the debris-filled site.

The rescue comes in the wake of widespread destruction caused by the floods, which have resulted in over 1,200 confirmed deaths and left more than 5,000 people missing. The disaster has submerged large portions of the Himalayan region in mud and debris, complicating ongoing recovery efforts as authorities work to locate the estimated 115 people still unaccounted for in the immediate vicinity of the tunnel.
