NewzRIDEALLDAY showed exactly why he’s the current Horse of the Year, producing a trademark late surge to collar The Prince’s Spur and win the 54th running of the $2.5-million Philip Feanny Gold Cup at Caymanas Park on Saturday. Trained by Philip Feanny and ridden by Ian Spence, the chestnut came from off the pace to take the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance feature over seven furlongs (1,400m) by a length. Rideallday settled in third down the backstretch, tracking Pack Plays (Emelio McLean) and early leader The Prince’s Spur (Tajay Suckoo).
He travelled smoothly while Spence bided his time. Approaching the distance, The Prince’s Spur kicked clear and looked set to steal it but Spence angled Rideallday to the inside rails in deep stretch, asked the question, and the Horse of the Year responded in full. Rideallday powered home to win going away by a length, with The Prince’s Spur holding second.
It was the second winner on the 10-race card for Feanny, who saddled Giving Thanks (Bebeto Harvey) in the second race. Also with two winners was jockey Reyan Lewis. Lewis won aboard Playfair in the fourth race for trainer Adrian Prince, and Khaleesi for trainer Carlton Cunningham in the 10th and final event.
The action continues today with a nine-race card.
