Cell phone theft is punishable by up to 20 years in prison

Under the new Dominican Penal Code, the theft of mobile phones is now classified as aggravated robbery, carrying sentences of up to 20 years in prison. The legislation specifically targets device thefts due to their high frequency throughout the country.

According to Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso, the severe penalties are designed to address the prevalence of these crimes in the Dominican Republic by establishing harsher consequences for offenders.
