Rusea’s, Frome in tantalising daCosta Cup clash

Former ISSA daCosta Cup football champions Rusea’s High could take control of Zone B when they take on second-placed Frome Technical this afternoon at Colin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea. Rusea’s lead the zone with maximum nine points from three games. They have two points more than their long-time rivals Frome who were held to a 0-0 result by Petersfield High on Saturday.

A fourth win for Rusea’s would put them in firm control of the group with teams only playing each other once before the two teams with the highest points tally advance to the second round. Led by Omarion Jemmison and Corey Palmer, who have combined for eight of the team’s 14 goals, Rusea’s will go into the game high on confidence against Frome. Frome have not beaten Rusea’s since the 2022 season, and if they are to get full points from this clash, Wayne Mullings will have to take charge and lead his team that has managed seven goals so far.

Elsewhere, Yallahs High will also be seeking a fourth-straight win when they take on Fair Prospect High in Zone H, while Zone A teams, Irwin High and St James, will be chasing three victories in a row. Yallahs are off to their best start in years and take on a Fair Prospect team that they defeated twice last season. Fair Prospect have earned only one point from two games so far.

Both Irwin High and St James High could separate themselves from the rest in Zone A with wins over Spot Valley High and Cambridge High, respectively. Irwin have outscored their two opponents 6-0 to lead the zone on goal difference over 2009 champions St James High, who are coming off a 3-2 win over Herbert Morrison Technical. Spot Valley have drawn all three games, and will face a confident Irwin High team that is yet to be fully tested.

Cambridge High will need to rebound from a 0-6 loss at the hands of Muschett High on Friday. Cambridge will face a Davano Brown-powered St James High team growing in confidence. Brown’s Town High, who will be away to York Castle High in Zone C, had their brilliant start cut short last week when they were held 1-1 by Cedric Titus.

They had scored 25 goals in their first two games. Brown’s Town are the leaders on seven points, one more than Ferncourt High. The Ferncourt team could be passed by Marcus Garvey Technical, on goals, if the latter side can beat Walkerswood Academy by at least seven goals.
