Russia adds independent newspaper 'Novaya Gazeta' to its list of "foreign agents"

The Russian Ministry of Justice has officially designated the independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta as a foreign agent. This administrative action follows the newspaper's long-standing history as a prominent publication, originally founded in 1993 with the support of former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

Russian authorities justify the inclusion by alleging that the newspaper continued to violate established legislation despite having its media license revoked four years ago. The move represents a continued effort by the Russian government to regulate and restrict the operations of independent media entities within the country.
