Russia holds parliamentary vote in areas it seized from Ukraine in the war

Russia has initiated parliamentary voting that for the first time includes residents living in regions seized from Ukraine following the full-scale invasion more than four and a half years ago. The election represents an effort by the Kremlin to cement its territorial gains in the illegally annexed areas.

Officials in Kyiv have strongly denounced the voting process, condemning the inclusion of occupied Ukrainian territories in the Russian electoral exercise.
