S. Korea to award 283 independence fighters on 81st anniv. of Liberation Day

South Korea will confer state medals and awards on 283 independence fighters on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of Liberation Day. The government announced the plans in Seoul in mid-August.

The awards honor individuals who contributed to the nation's independence movement during the colonial period. This recognition is part of ongoing annual commemorations marking the end of Japanese colonial rule on Liberation Day.
