San Marcos University is demanding its assets from the State: the Congress building, the Loayza Hospital, and properties in downtown Lima are in dispute.

The National University of San Marcos is currently in a dispute with the Peruvian state over a significant amount of urban real estate located in central Lima, including properties currently housing the Congress of the Republic, a portion of the Loayza Hospital, commercial areas in Mesa Redonda and Barrios Altos, and land in Pueblo Libre.

This ownership conflict brings to light a broader regional discussion regarding state-held assets and institutional property rights, paralleling separate debates in other South American jurisdictions, such as Argentina, concerning the administration and control of massive state-managed financial and physical portfolios.
