Satellites show Earth lost more than 12 trillion tons of ice from Greenland, Antarctica in 47 years

Since 1979, Greenland and Antarctica have lost approximately 12.5 trillion tons of ice, according to a major scientific report based on satellite data. This total represents 11.3 trillion metric tons of meltwater accumulated over the past 47 years.
