Scottish Woman Found Dead in Suitcase in Athens

Greek authorities are investigating the death of a Scottish woman whose body was discovered inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens. The woman has been identified by multiple media reports as Elisabeth-Jane Ross, 38. According to Greek state broadcaster ERT, she is believed to have travelled to Greece from Cyprus last month.

Investigators believe the woman may have died between five and seven days before her body was discovered. Police are also seeking additional information from British authorities to confirm details surrounding her movements before arriving in Greece. A police spokesperson said authorities had requested further information regarding when she entered Greece, how she travelled and who, if anyone, accompanied her.

Officials added that they could not release further details while the investigation remains ongoing. UK authorities assisting The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the woman’s family and is in contact with the Greek authorities. Meanwhile, Police Scotland said officers are supporting the woman’s family in Scotland while liaising with investigators in Greece.

“We are aware of the death of a Scottish woman in Athens and are liaising with authorities in Greece,” a Police Scotland spokesperson said. “Officers are providing support to her family in Scotland.” Greek police have not announced any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
