NewzPakistan’s air defence system shot down eight drones after they entered the country’s airspace from Afghanistan on Wednesday morning, security sources said. "Four of the drones were brought down in areas adjoining the Torkham border, while another four were shot down in mountainous areas near the border with Kohat," the sources said. The sources said the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force had thwarted the attempt by the Afghan Taliban regime to target public places, adding that the country’s “active and alert air defence system” had detected and brought down all eight drones.

The term Fitna al-Khawarij is used by the state to refer to terrorists affiliated with the banned TTP. According to security sources, the infiltration attempt was made from Afghan Taliban posts in Nangarhar and Paktia provinces but was effectively thwarted by Pakistani troops deployed along the border. Following the failure of the attempt, the Afghan Taliban opened unprovoked fire on Pakistani border posts using heavy weapons, mortars and other arms, sources added.
They further added that security forces responded effectively and targeted several Afghan Taliban border posts, mortar positions and defensive positions with small and heavy weapons, including artillery. The development emerged two days after Pakistan carried out “calibrated” air strikes against terrorist hideouts near the Afghan border and conducted intelligence-based ground operations that killed a total of 37 terrorists following a series of deadly attacks in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). On September 20, security forces conducted an intelligence-based ground operation against a group of terrorists in Kohat and Hangu districts.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces detected the "movement of a group of khawarij belonging to Indian-sponsored Fitna al Khawarij during the night of August 31 and September 1." “Own troops responded professionally and with patience to engage them successfully,” the statement said.
