The highest tides of the year have returned. King tides will impact South Florida over the next few days, water levels during this time are higher than on any average day. These higher-than-normal tides occur during the spring and fall by the Earth, Sun, and Moon alignment.
This paired with steady onshore winds pushing water toward the coast will cause coastal flooding about one to two hours before and after the morning and evening high tide cycles. Coastal Flood Advisory in effectThere is a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for the coastal Broward and Miami-Dade, with a Coastal Flood Warning in effect for the Upper Keys. Expect water to briefly rise onto low-lying rods, driveways, and sidewalks near the shore.
Moderate to major flooding is expected into Monday as winds increase and on and off downpours impact the region. This could worsen street flooding as saltwater in storm drains prevent freshwater from clearing roads. Water may be deeper than it appears and can damage or disable vehicles.
Here is a closer look at the expected times of high tide: .l10-neighborhood, .l10-neighborhood * { box-sizing: border-box; } .l10-neighborhood{ --blue-dark:#0d2c73; --blue:#1f57c4; --blue-light:#3370e6; --gray-bg:#f2f3f5; --gray-border:#d6d8dc; --text-dark:#1a1a1a; --white:#ffffff; font-family:system-ui,-apple-system,"Segoe UI",Roboto,Arial,sans-serif; max-width:860px; margin:1.5rem auto; border-radius:10px; overflow:hidden; border:1px solid var(--gray-border); background:var(--gray-bg); box-shadow:0 4px 14px rgba(0,0,0,.12); text-align:center; } .l10-head{ background:linear-gradient(90deg,var(--blue-dark),var(--blue)); color:var(--white); padding:12px 16px; font-weight:800; text-transform:uppercase; font-size:1rem; letter-spacing:.3px; display:flex; justify-content:center; align-items:center; gap:8px; } .l10-body{ max-width:740px; margin:0 auto; padding:0 16px 18px; } .l10-sub{ margin:12px 0 10px; font-size:.95rem; color:var(--text-dark); font-weight:500; text-align:center; } .l10-grid{ display:grid; grid-template-columns:1fr; gap:12px; } @media (min-width:600px){ .l10-grid{ grid-template-columns:repeat(3,1fr); } } .nb-btn{ display:grid; place-items:center; text-align:center; line-height:1; width:100%; min-height:48px; padding:10px; border-radius:8px; text-decoration:none; font-weight:800; text-transform:uppercase;… Shannan Ryan, a self-proclaimed “witch doctor” convicted of second-degree murder in the disappearance and death of 21-year-old Leila Cavett, was sentenced to life in prison on Friday.Ryan was found guilty last month in the case involving Cavett, a young mother who disappeared about six years ago. Her body has never been found.Cavett’s young son was found wandering alone the day she went missing.Ryan has maintained his innocence.
His defense attorney, Dameka Davis, criticized prosecutors’ portrayal of her client as a witch doctor, arguing that the characterization unfairly influenced the case against him. Before sentencing, Ryan listened as Cavett’s family members delivered victim impact statements describing the lasting pain of her disappearance and death.Cavett’s sister, Tyuania Cavett, spoke about the emotional toll of being reminded of her sister through her name and the songs she loved.“There are days I can’t even talk about it because of the pain I feel,” she said, in part.Davis rejected the prosecution’s characterization of Ryan and the suggestion that Cavett was portrayed as evil as part of a narrative used to justify her killing.Ryan showed little visible reaction during the sentencing hearing.Davis said she plans to appeal the conviction.Authorities said Cavett’s body has not been recovered, leaving her family without the opportunity to lay her to rest.
