Senate confirms Blanche as AG , passes bill to avoid shutdown before August recess

The U.S. Senate wrapped up a busy final stretch of work early Saturday, successfully confirming Todd Blanche to lead the Department of Justice (DOJ) as Attorney General. Blanche, who served as President Trump's former personal attorney, had previously been holding the position of acting attorney general since April.

Alongside the confirmation, the Senate passed a critical stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown. Following the passage of these measures, the Senate officially adjourned to begin its scheduled August recess.
