Drought worsens in Puerto Rico and doubles in one week

Drought conditions in Puerto Rico have intensified significantly over the past week, with the territory experiencing a sharp increase in extreme drought classification. Current data indicates that 17% of the island is now categorized under extreme drought conditions, nearly doubling from the 9.49% reported just one week prior.

This rapid deterioration of water resources has impacted local infrastructure, specifically affecting the status of reservoirs. Consequently, more than half a million people on the island are currently subject to water service restrictions as authorities manage the dwindling supply.
