Defending champions Manchester City defeated Brighton 3-2 in the Women's Super League on Sunday, with Jamaican striker Khadija Shaw scoring two of City's three goals. According to a BBC report, Shaw scored twice, linking up with winger Lauren Hemp for both goals, before England full-back Niamh Charles drilled in a third. City had taken a 3-0 lead within the first 17 minutes, but appeared to have taken their feet off the accelerator.

According to the BBC, Brighton was not going down without a fight as Olivia Garcia poked home a Fran Kirby cut-back, before Caitlin Hayes' header reduced City's lead to just one goal. But in the end, City did just enough to claim a deserved 3-2 victory.
