Mexico asks the US to halt deportations of Mexicans to Central America: more than 2,000 people have been repatriated

On September 3, Mexican authorities publicly protested and demanded that the United States halt the practice of deporting Mexican nationals to third countries in Central America. During a morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the measure, stating there is no reason to send Mexican deportees to Central America, and argued against the actions.

According to government figures presented during the briefings, more than 2,000 to 2,900 Mexican individuals have already been repatriated in this manner. The Secretaría de Gobernación, the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores, and the Instituto Nacional de Migración are among the Mexican agencies involved in addressing and responding to these cross-border deportations.
