Siegfried Mureșan formally nominated for PM, has 10 days to seek Parliament confidence vote

Romanian President Nicușor Dan formally designated Liberal MEP Siegfried Mureșan as the candidate for prime minister on Monday, September 21. The official decree, published in the Official Gazette, initiates a 10-day constitutional window for Mureșan to present his cabinet and seek a vote of confidence from the Romanian Parliament.

Following the nomination, the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) announced its opposition to the proposed government. Party president Sorin Grindeanu stated that the PSD leadership has recommended its lawmakers vote against the Mureșan administration, with the party's National Political Council expected to finalize this stance.
