Silencing TaiwanPlus would weaken the island democracy

The Kuomintang (KMT) has proposed a plan to slash the budget of TaiwanPlus, Taiwan's public news channel. This legislative move threatens to silence or significantly curtail the broadcaster's operations.

According to analysts, the proposed budget cuts would severely impair Taiwan's capacity to counter foreign disinformation campaigns. Furthermore, it would undermine the island's ability to communicate its own narrative globally, weakening its position as an island democracy.
