Singer Dee and Richie Spice join forces on ‘Treat Mama Good’

During a conversation with Bobby Digital many years ago, Singer Dee said the famed producer advised him that collaborating with a brand artiste, would help get him a hit song. It was not until last year that the Canada-based singer linked with Richie Spice, the roots singer known for songs like Earth A Run Red and Brown Skin. Their song, Treat Mama Good, was released in May and has done well in regional reggae charts in Jamaica, Canada and tri-state (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) area.

Bobby Digital, who died in 2020, never lived to see the two singers record together. For Singer Dee, his advice was prophetic. “Working with such an experienced artiste was an incredible experience, and I learned a lot from him (Richie Spice) both musically and professionally,” he said.

The two vocalists share writing credits for Treat Mama Good. The track is produced by Singer Dee, who lives in Edmonton, Alberta. It was inspired by his mother, Rachel Bryan, who died early this year.

“It was inspired primarily by my mother, but also by mothers everywhere who dedicate their lives to nurturing and caring for their families. We wanted to create a song that expresses gratitude and respect for all mothers,” said Singer Dee. Born David Bruan, Singer Dee is from Portland.

He spent much of his formative years in Kingston where he got involved in music through sound systems. A recording artiste since the 1990s, his songs include Never Give Up and Ten Toes. The latter is also the name of his production company.
