NewzST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) – Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, says SpaceX is expected to become a major sponsor of the Commonwealth Business Forum, while company founder Elon Musk could attend the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in the Eastern Caribbean state. On Saturday, Browne shared that his Government was close to finalising a partnership with the aerospace and technology company. “We have a partnership currently that we are about to sign off with SpaceX,” he said, adding that the company would be one of the major sponsors of the business forum.
The prime minister said Musk had indicated that he was available to participate in the event, although his attendance has not been confirmed. “Potentially, Elon Musk has indicated that he is available, that he will participate, so we’re hoping that he’ll make it here,” Browne said. Antigua and Barbuda will host CHOGM from November 1-4, bringing together leaders and ministers from the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries, along with representatives from business, civil society and youth organisations.
The meeting is held every two years in a different Commonwealth country. The 2026 gathering is being held under the theme “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth” and is expected to focus on climate resilience, trade, innovation, equality and sustainable development. The Commonwealth Business Forum is among several forums held alongside CHOGM aimed at expanding participation beyond government leaders and promoting investment and partnerships.
Browne said the Antiguan government wants the meeting to produce tangible investment, capital, skills and technology rather than simply become another international conference. He also suggested that SpaceX could provide a Cybertruck equipped with satellite technology for use during the event, including possibly transporting King Charles III, the Head of the Commonwealth, if approval is granted.
