The Spanish lower house of parliament has approved a bill that would grant Spanish citizenship to Western Saharans born in the territory prior to 1977. The legislation, which now moves to the Senate for further consideration, aims to provide legal status to tens of thousands of Sahrawis who were residents of the region during the period of Spanish colonial administration.
