Spanish PM accuses Israel, Russia of spreading disinformation around Ceuta migrant crisis

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated on Monday that there are indications Russia and Israel spread disinformation regarding Spain's migration policy. According to Sánchez, this disinformation campaign triggered a rush of over 70,000 migrants who irregularly crossed from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta last month. He noted that while EU research indicates these nations encouraged the border breach to punish Madrid for its positions on the Gaza and Ukraine wars, there is currently no evidence of Moroccan involvement in the disinformation efforts.

The incident highlights geopolitical tensions intersecting with domestic migration challenges. By pointing to foreign interference from both Russia and Israel, the Spanish government connects local border security pressures directly to international diplomatic stances concerning ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
