Stars and Stripes publisher, editor and reporter sue Pentagon to challenge their firings

Publisher Max Lederer, Editor-in-Chief Erik Slavin, and reporter Lara Korte filed a lawsuit in federal court on Thursday against the Department of Defense. The legal action seeks to challenge the recent termination of their employment at Stars and Stripes, a military-focused news organization. The plaintiffs are requesting that the court prevent the Pentagon from moving forward with the firings.

The complaint alleges that the Department of Defense violated the staffers' First Amendment rights. The legal challenge specifically contends that the terminations were a response to the employees speaking out against government interference in the newspaper's editorial independence.
