Sumar has confirmed it will maintain its established roadmap for the upcoming general elections, bypassing a proposal from Podemos for open primaries to select a left-wing candidate.

Irene Montero, the number two figure in Podemos, had previously called for open primaries to choose the candidate for the left. In response, representatives for Sumar stated that the proposal did not pressure them and that they would prioritize their own unity process to select their candidate and electoral brand, leaving the possibility of discussing primaries dependent on prior agreements.
