Symbolic funerals held in Nepal for those feared lost as some missing tourists make contact

Following catastrophic floods last week in Nepal, officials reported on Wednesday that some tourists previously listed as missing have made contact with authorities. The country's Foreign Ministry stated that 324 foreign nationals have been accounted for, while international efforts continue to trace others affected by the disaster.

Amid these developments, families of local residents who remain unaccounted for held symbolic funerals on Wednesday to mourn their loved ones. The broader disaster has taken a severe toll, with the nationwide death toll surpassing 1,100 people.

International governments are also updating their own figures as communication is re-established. For instance, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced Wednesday that the number of missing Australians dropped from 43 to 38 after five individuals were confirmed safe overnight.
