Taiwan briefly slows its mobile internet to text-only speed as part of defense drill

As part of the final phase of the annual Han Kuang military exercises, Taiwan intentionally restricted mobile internet speeds to text-only capacity for 30 minutes on Thursday. The measure affected residents in the capital city of Taipei as well as six other localities across the island.

The slowdown was conducted as a tactical drill to test the island's communications infrastructure and readiness. These exercises, which began last week, are designed to simulate defense scenarios and evaluate the resilience of Taiwan's digital networks during potential military contingencies.
