Taiwan representative in Japan boycotts Nagasaki anniversary ceremony over seating

Taiwan's top economic representative in Japan boycotted the 81st anniversary memorial of the U.S. atomic bombing of Nagasaki. The official, Lee Yi-ya, stated that the decision to skip the ceremony was a response to the seating arrangements provided by Nagasaki city officials.

Lee accused local organizers of being pro-China and characterized the treatment of the Taiwanese delegation as an insult to Taipei. The boycott highlights ongoing diplomatic tensions regarding the participation of Taiwanese representatives in official Japanese commemorative events.
