NewzMUSOMA: THE Mara Regional Immigration Office has arrested 134 people, all citizens of the Republic of Burundi, in a special operation currently being conducted in various parts of the region. The operation is aimed at identifying and apprehending immigrants who are residing in the country in violation of immigration laws and regulations, particularly those who entered Tanzania without following the required procedures. The operation is being led and supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Bernadetha Tyetyetye, who has urged immigration officers and personnel to carry out their duties with professionalism, integrity and in accordance with the law.
Commissioner Tyetyetye has also called on immigration officers and personnel to step up efforts to curb illegal immigration, saying such measures will help reduce the number of immigrants residing in the country unlawfully. The Mara Regional Immigration Office said it will continue conducting operations and patrols across different areas of the region to ensure compliance with immigration laws and contribute to maintaining national security.
Meanwhile, members of the public have been urged to continue cooperating with the Immigration Department by providing information about people suspected of residing in the country illegally, so that appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the law. According to the statement, 40 of those arrested are citizens of the Republic of Burundi, while one is a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Immigration Department to control the entry, stay and conduct of foreign nationals in the country who violate immigration laws and regulations. During the operation, immigration officers focused on identifying foreign nationals who had entered or were staying in the country without valid permits, as well as those engaging in various activities without complying with immigration requirements.
