Tasmania treated invasive grass; fish species more than doubled in 3 years

Efforts to eradicate invasive rice grass in Tasmania’s Duck Bay wetland have resulted in a significant ecological recovery. Over the past three years, the Circular Head Landcare group successfully reduced the invasive weed coverage from approximately 50 hectares to five hectares, facilitating the restoration of native saltmarsh vegetation.

Scientific monitoring conducted by the University of Tasmania indicates that the habitat improvement has positively impacted local biodiversity. Researchers observed that the number of fish species inhabiting the area has more than doubled since the intervention began.
